MCSE Update: Passed the 70-282 Exam
Jun 2nd, 2007 by Tony
Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on my MCSE Cert Progress. Yesterday, I passed the 70-282 Exam (Designing, Deploying, and Managing a Network Solution for a Small- and Medium-Sized Business). If you are someone working with Small Business Server or Windows Server in a Small to Medium-sized environment, then this might be a good exam to try out. One word of warning though: the exam really covers a broad area of topics that really apply to any flavor of Server. Besides the SBS specific wizards and configuration options, be sure that you are familiar with important core networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, WINS), Group Policy management, and other Server 2003 configuration options.
Personally, my studying involved using a virtual machine with an installation of SBS 2003 as well as the MeasureUp Practice Exam. I’ve also been an IT assistant at an office running SBS, so the experience has definitely helped. You can purchase an exam voucher and practice test (14 day online access) for $150. There aren’t many other resources to use for passing the exam, but here a few good ones:
- 70-282 Exam Objectives
- SMB Nation 70-282 Exam Update (Be sure to check out Harry’s book as well)
- Transcender 70-282 Practice (Didn’t use it personally, but it’s been recommended by other folks)
