class on Memorial Day?!
Apr 10th, 2007 by Louisa
So I’m taking a class called “Religious and Theological Interpretations of America”, which is a really impressive way to say “small seminar class concerning religious understandings of this country”. The professor is loud and likes to talk, which isn’t always a bad thing, except when you need her to like you so that she will be the second reader of your M.A. thesis. Plus I’d heard (though can’t verify) that a guy left the school a few years ago because she made his life miserable. His story is that he and another student were dating, and he broke up with her. Which apparently made her angry, so she told my prof that he was abusive. The prof took the girl’s side, ignored the guy’s protests that she was fabricating the entire story, railroaded him into counseling and sensitivity training, etc. There’s some background for ya.
Fastforward to the present. The class meets Monday and Wednesday, and since Memorial Day falls on a Monday, we are still having class that day (yes, the school is technically closed) at the prof’s house. Strike number 1. Then she wants to have a double class period that day so she can catch an earlier plane ride that Wednesday. Strike number 2. This past class she asked if anyone had any feelings about meeting for a double class that Monday. I said that I wasn’t even sure if I’d be in town that weekend (which, in my opinion, is reasonable since a lot of people travel that weekend). She looked at me and said, “Well, I guess it’ll [having class that day] affect you either way then.” and proceeded to ignore me. Strike number 3.
Rant over. Have a nice Tuesday!
